Art Duo ‘CHAWK & MAROT‘ Exhibiting at The Guild
The Archive Gallery, located at The Guild, will showcase 12 original portrait paintings by portrait painter CHAWK and renowned augmented reality artist Marc Marot. The duo seek to bring new technology to figurative painting, changing the way we consume art.
CHAWK is one of the only portrait painters in the world to use the notoriously difficult 'verre eglomise' technique to paint his artwork directly onto reclaimed sheets of glass, which Marot then animates using cutting edge augmented reality technology.
The unique and mind-bending pieces consist of thousands of photographs put together in animation activated through the 'Artivive' app. Visitors to the free exhibition will be able to interact with the artwork using i-pads provided or their own devices.
The show is entitled “Icons” and will run for two weeks. There will be an opportunity to meet the artists at the 17 September launch event.
Speaking ahead of the exhibition, CHAWK (Chris Hawkins) said:
“After the global success of shows like “Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience”, interactivity looks set to be the future of art. We are really excited to be bringing our exhibition to Salisbury first.
‘’We’ve tried to create an experience for people. A talking point. Our goal was to create something that fits into the new media landscape and quite literally stands out.’’
Marc Marot said:
‘’After having success with the great landscape artist Scarlett Raven, I was excited to join forces with a portrait painter. This started out as an experiment but it became very apparent early on that there was a lot we could do with it. With Chris’s ability as a painter and my experience in the music industry and AR artist together I feel we’ve created something really special. But most importantly I think people will really like it. It’s universal.’’
